What an AI assistant should actually do in social listening

The useful job is not another chatbot. It is summarising your workspace, explaining change, and pointing analysts at the next filter.

Generic AI is good at sounding fluent about a brand it has never monitored. That is a liability. A listening assistant should be constrained to the mentions, topics and metrics in a customer workspace — the same data the charts use.

The jobs that save time are narrow: summarise a period, explain a spike, list emerging themes, compare two brands on the queries you set. The jobs that create risk are wide: “write our crisis statement”, “tell me if we should fire the agency”, “what does the market think of us forever.”

Hallucination risk does not disappear because the UI sits next to a dashboard. Analysts should be able to click through to the supporting mentions. If they cannot, the assistant is theatre.

Brand254’s intended assistant is that constrained layer. It is not ChatGPT with a logo. Weekly summaries and a conversational analyst are plan-dependent, and outputs remain decision support.

If a vendor cannot explain which data the model sees, whether your content trains someone else’s model, and how wrong answers are caught, you do not have an intelligence product. You have a demo.
